2024

  • Co-Host for Anatomy Tour [Y.E.A.H. Program]: “UF Health Jacksonville partnered with Darnell-Cookman School of the Medical Arts to expose high school students to the possibility of pursuing careers in the health and science fields through a program called Youth Education for Advancing in Health, or the Y.E.A.H. program.” The Anatomy tour was created and hosted by UFCOM ASE PhD graduate students, under the mentorship of Kyle Rarey, PhD, and Dan Topping, MD. The tour consisted of an overview of the anatomy lab and the donor body program, a medical student perspective, and rotation around three stations (radiology, nervous system and brain anatomy, heart anatomy, and skeletal anatomy) to explore relevant content.
  • Co-Host local chapter of the American Association of Anatomy’s inaugural “Anato-BEE” Competition: This is an outreach program for high school students to participate in anatomy and to promote engagement in anatomical sciences education. UF ASE PhD students, under the mentorship of Kyle Rarey, PhD, and Dan Topping, MD, will serve as coordinators for the local virtual competition and will then assist local winners with details of attending the in-person regional competition.

2023

  • Co-creator of “Anatomy Sessions” within the HealthCare Summer Institute (HCSI): “UFCOM’s Office for Health Care Excellence, Community, and Belonging hosts the four-week HealthCare Summer Institute for rising junior and senior high school students who are historically excluded from careers in health, disadvantaged and, or lower socioeconomic (LSE) groups, urban, and rural backgrounds, who are interested in entering health related fields.” The Anatomy session was created and hosted by UFCOM ASE PhD graduate students, under the mentorship of Kyle Rarey, PhD, and Dan Topping, MD. It is a half-day workshop split into an inter-professional graduate student panel and an anatomy session. During the panel, the high schoolers are exposed to various professions within the multiple healthcare arenas. The anatomy experience allows the high school students to rotate around four stations (radiology, nervous system and brain anatomy, cardiovascular system and heart anatomy, and skeletal anatomy) to explore relevant content.
